The Department of Health and Social Care has recently updated its guidance for health and social care staff who are caring for or treating adults who lack capacity during the new national lockdown in England that began on 6 January 2021.
You can read the updated guidance here.
The guidance says that during the national lockdown, visits by professionals can occur if needed but decisions around visitations are operational decisions and “ultimately for the providers and managers of individual care homes and hospitals to make”.
It explains that DoLS professionals should work closely with hospitals and care homes to decide if visiting in person is appropriate, and how to do this safely.
Similarly, the Department’s policy on family and friends’ visits to care homes has been updated to include practical advice about how to facilitate safe visits, which will also it says be useful to DoLS professionals.
